Dominican Republic 92 – Panama 68
The first game of the second round of 2011 FIBA Americas Championship played on September 5 and in that Dominican Republic thrashed Panama 92-68. Dominican Republic was best side in Group-A during the preliminary round of the 2011
FIBA Americas Championship and they continued their solid form in the tourney. Here is a review of some of the best performance from that game and some of the others that were played on that night.
Luis Flores
Point guard Luis Flores was the one, who led Dominican Republic by canning 17 points and five assists. Flores took 24 minutes and 83 percent shooting from the field and 67 percent from the three-point range to achieve these stats.
It was Flores commendable outside shooting that allowed Dominican Republic to lead the way with 12-10 advantage in the first quarter. Flores didn’t stop there as his aggression continued in the second quarter as well, where Dominican
Republic gained their highest lead.
Francisco Garcia
Francisco Garcia also had a great. He chipped in with 15 points, two rebounds and two assists for Dominican Republic, hitting 60 percent of his field goals and 30 percent of his three-pointers.
Danilo Pinnock
Danilo Pinnock was the best performer for Panama. Pinnock guided the side with a game-high 23 points, but even that couldn’t save Panama from the embarrassing defeat. Pinnock’s contributions also involve six rebounds and four assists.
He spent 38 minutes on the court.
It was Pinnock, who enabled Panama to bounce back on few occasions. One such moment came in the first quarter, when Panama was lagging behind, but Danilo charged in with his fast break points and cut the deficit short.
Puerto Rico 94 – Venezuela 82
Daniel Santiago
Daniel Santiago guided Puerto Rico, as they beat Venezuela 94-82.
Santiago led the way with a game-high 22 points in just 20 minutes. He went 89 percent from the field and 100 percent from the charity stripe. His contributions also involved two rebounds and one assist.
Santiago helped the Puerto Rican squad on moments when it really mattered. First, in the initial quarter, Santiago put his team in front with two successive baskets. Then, in the third quarter because of his great contribution,
Puerto Rica finished the quarter 18 points ahead of Venezuela. At the start of the fourth quarter, his two successive free throws put Puerto Rica on top straight away and the opposition faded away from there onwards.
Alexander Rodriguez
Power Forward Alexander Rodriguez propped up Santiago with 18 points. During his 20 minutes stay on the court, Rodriguez went 67 percent from the field, hit 60 percent from beyond the arc and 50 percent from the free throw line.
Axiers Sucres
For Venezuela, Axiers Sucres was the top contributor and kept his team’s hopes high through most part of the game. Sucres’ contribution on the night included 18 points and three rebounds.
