The Getafe manager does not want Real Madrid to lose in Catalonia, claiming that a defeat for Barcelona will be ‘for the good of the league’.
With the midweek European fixtures out of the way, Spanish top flight footballing activities resumes in full furore before international break haunts domestic competitions worldwide. The Iberian Peninsula is buzzing with excitement as the countdown to first
La Liga El Clasico begins.
Real Madrid travel to Catalonia on Sunday for the crunch La Liga fixture, as all eyes are fixed on the two Spanish giants. Getafe manager, Luis Garcia Plaza, took out time to reflect on the much anticipated match-up, backing Real Madrid for a win at the
Camp Nou.
The young 39-year-old trainer claimed that a win for Barcelona will finish off the league, and hence his backing for cross town rivals, Real Madrid.
“For the good of the league I do not want Barca to win, but not because I have any ill feeling towards them,” the 40-year-old said while in conversation with media reporters.
Continuing on the topic, the former Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Madrid trainer claimed that he hoped for the opposite in 2011/12 season’s April El Clasico. He stated that he rooted for La Blaugrana so that the title race would continue into the final days
of the competition.
Explaining his point of view, Plaza pointed towards the Primera Division standings to make his point. He commented that with Barcelona and Real Madrid traditionally fighting off each other for silverware, the current scenario does not portray a good picture.
He stated that the 11 point gap that La Blaugrana will boast off if they win in the fixture will put the title race to a rest as Los Blancos will have a very stiff task on their hands to hack off the magnanimous deficit.
“Last year I said the opposite, that I wanted http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 to win in their last league meeting, but this year I want Real Madrid to get the points because if not then the club is 11 points behind and that will be very difficult to overcome.”
“That the two main contenders for the title, just seven days from the start, are 11 points apart is not good. Last year I said the same thing, but the other way around, to produce a more equal league. If they can catch up then they can fight tooth and nail
all year."
