Luis Leon Sanchez wins the stage 3 of the Tour De Romandie 2012
Luis Leon Sanchez of Team Rabobank claimed his first win at the Tour De Romandie after his spectacular performance during the Stage 3
He completed the 157.6 kilometre race from Neuveville to Charmey in a fastest time of 3 hours 58 minutes and 29 seconds.
The cyclist overcame the race favourites and bagged an important victory at the Swiss race.
Gianni Meersman of Team Lotto Belisol finished at the second position with Paolo Tiralongo of Team Astana claiming the third spot.
Andrew Talansky of Team Garmin-Barracuda, Bauke Mollema of Team Rabobank and Rinaldo Nocentini of Team AG2R La Mondiale occupied the fourth, the fifth and the sixth positions in the respective order.
Sanchez registered his first win of the season by claiming the 6thstage of the Paris-Nice 2012 and also holds a Vuelta a Castilla y Leon win in his bag.
Matthew Brammeier of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step wins the first mountain of the race while Gatis Smukulis of Team Katusha succeeded during the second and the third categories of the event and also bagged all the three sprints of the race.
The stage 2 classifications leader, Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky Procycling finished at the 22nd position and maintained his dominance at the overall classifications.
However, his lead of 7 seconds has now been cut down to only 1 second by the stage winner Sanchez who has jumped up to the second overall spot after the victory.
Michael Rogers of Team Sky is holding the third overall spot with a deficit of 7 seconds on his team-mate with Bauke Mollema further 2 seconds behind at the fourth position.
Lars Bak of Team Lotto Belisol is leading the mountains classifications with a total number of 21 points to his credit.
Fabrice Jeandesboz of Team Saur-Sojasun and Gatis Smukulis of Team Katusha are holding the second and the third positions with 15 and 13 points respectively.
Gatis Smukulis, Stef Clement and Fabrice Jeandesboz are the top three cyclists after the stage 2 sprints classifications while Andrew Talansky, Wilco Kelderman and Tom Jelte Slagter are leading the young rider’s category of the race.
