Luis Perez-Sala: Hispania Racing Team unlikely to run KERS in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Luis Perez Sala, the team principal of Hispania Racing Team (HRT) has said that they are unlikely to run Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) in 2012 Formula 1 season regardless of the car being capable of carrying the device.
Although it varies from track to track, however, KERS gives a reasonable advantage to the driver during the race while providing an extra 80hp on average.
HRT are still struggling in understanding their car while they are keeping their focus on creating a better understanding about the car before going to make some major changes in its design.
“We have a car we are yet to discover,” said Perez-Sala.
It would be interesting to mention here that HRT and Marussia are the only contenders in F1 right now which are not using KERS.
Even though, HRT’s car has been designed to use KERS however Sala said that they will not be able to use it in this season.
“It [the F112] is designed to carry KERS but in the short term we will not [use it]. We don’t think we’re going to race with it this year,” he added.
Furthermore, Perez-Sala said that he feels positive that the in-season test which is going to be held at Mugello after the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix will help them in creating a more profound understanding about the car after they qualified within the 107%
rule at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
“It's not perfect,” he added. “Right now, we have assembled the car in a hurry and so the private testing at Mugello, just after Bahrain, will be very important to us.”
Besides, he said that they will keep on making the significant developments and the necessary preparations in order to make the essential improvements in the car for the upcoming races.
“In China and Bahrain we will improve things in the car and the team, but it is a slow process that will last all year,” he added.
It is notable that Red Bull Racing has criticised HRT to “pay more attention” after the collapse of the defending champions, Sebastian Vettel with Narain Karthikeyan in the second race.
