Luis Perez-Sala admits that it is impossible to continue HRT – Formula 1 news
HRT’s team boss, Luis Perez-Sala, has admitted that it is impossible for the Spanish team to continue in Formula 1 championship.
“It was impossible to go on,” Sala told El Mundo Deportivo newspaper. “When we decided to take charge of the team, we were promised aid that never arrived.”
Sala was also unhappy with the team’s condition when he was first appointed as the team boss by Thesan Capital who are the owners of the team. He had stated earlier in August this year that he did not like what he saw. He had said that there was no organisation
or credibility; lack of aerodynamic research and no technician was based in the same place. He insisted that the team was Spanish but did not look like it at all.
HRT was put up for sale in November by Thesan Capital and they were expecting it to be bought by December. However, the team failed to find any buyer and as a result was not listed in the entry list for 2013 F1 season since it failed to pay the entry fees.
No official statement has been given by the team yet.
Pedro de la Rosa, who is also Spanish and left his reserve driver role at McLaren to drive for HRT during the 2012 F1 season, also admits that he was aware of the financial struggles of the team. He said that while he is only a driver and knows nothing for
sure but still there is a feeling that the project will not be continuing. He added that everybody tried their best but in the end everybody is a bit responsible. He was also disappointed that the team could not gain popularity being Spanish given how much
people like Spanish driver, Fernando Alonso.
De la Rosa had been encouraged by Sala to join the team and with Narain Karthikeyan represented the team this year. HRT started in F1 from the 2010 F1 season but since then has failed to score any championship point. For first two seasons, the team remained
at the eleventh place in constructors’ championship but fell to twelfth at the end of this year.
