Luis Perez-Sala says that HRT was in a terrible situation when he was appointed – Formula 1 news
Luis Perez-Sala, principal of team HRT says that his team was struggling when he was appointed as the principal of the team.
He added that his team under his predecessor Colin Kolles was not happy.
He said that although the team is among tail-enders at the constructors’ grid, a lot has improved in the team.
Furthermore, he said that when he came the team was in a total disaster and everything was messed up. He added that there was no credibility, no aerodynamic research, no home and no identity. The team used to get everything from independent manufacturers
and there was nothing Spanish in a Spanish team.
Perez-Sala told El Pais newspaper, “It was a total disaster. There was no organisation, no credibility. No aerodynamic research. No home, no identity. Everything was outsourced. No technician was based at the same place. They said it was a Spanish team,
but there was nothing Spanish.”
He added that Pedro de la Rosa, one of the drivers of the team is an essential constituent of the team because of his experience. He added that de la Rosa knows how to develop car with mechanics and engineering and knows everyone in the game, this gives
him added understanding in delivering what he wants with his car. Furthermore, he said that de la Rosa also helps in making plans for the future.
“He [is] Spanish, he is experienced, he is honest. He has been more than ten years in Formula One, knows everyone and knows how to develop a car with the mechanics and the engineers,” he said.
HRT has been struggling and has been unable to secure a single point in the championship until now. Its driver, de la Rosa was only able to finish the Hungarian Grand Prix at 22nd place after starting from 23rd grid place. During the
season, he has been unable to make it to the top 10 drivers. It is due to this reason he has been unable to get a single point for himself and his team.
His teammate Narain Karthikeyan could not finish the Hungarian GP however, he started the race at 24th grid position.
