Luis Rojas clinches Men’s 200m IM gold: Day three – Venezuela Open Championships
Luis Rojas of SCLN clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in the 14 and above category on day three of the Venezuela Open Championships in Maracaibo on May 19.
The 22-year-old Rojas remained considerably ahead of his competitors in the first half of the event and with his continuous efforts, he made his way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
He enjoyed an advantage of almost half body length over his challengers and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.56 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Kenek Gil of MAXVI, who tried hard to out-touch him over the finishing blockade for gold medal, but stayed 0.49 seconds slower and hit the finishing end for second position with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.05 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Eddy Marin of CNTRU, who stayed two body lengths behind and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 09.68 seconds for bronze medal of the event.
Fourth best spot of the event was secured by Carlos Claverie of LAUVI, who was almost one second apart and sprinted his way towards the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.91 seconds.
Similarly, Claverie remained 1.17 seconds faster from Edgar Aguilar of NSCMI, who proved his eligibility for fifth position of the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 12.08 seconds.
The 17-year-old Aguilar was followed by Alvaro Lozano of CNCDC, who was 0.68 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.76 seconds for sixth position.
Lozano was trailed by Jesus Sandoval of STOME, who remained nearly 0.60 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.32 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Joel Acosta of MAXVI, who hit the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.13 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience for their commendable efforts at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
