The Andalusian club have yet to pay 35-40 percent wages of the players and have incurred the wrath of Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) with their disregard for contractual obligations.
Reports regarding Qatari back La Liga club Malaga defaulting on their dues to players have been confirmed by President of the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE), Luis Rubiales.
The AFE President revealed that all is not rosy at La Rosaleda and the Andalusian club have yet to fulfil the contractual obligations towards their employees.
Despite finishing with a top-4 position in the Primera Division and earning the right to play in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, Rubiales revealed that around 35-40 percent of incurred wages were outstanding as of June 30.
"I do not mean hypothesis. There is a situation of default on June 30. Now owed to the players between 35 and 40% of their contracts," he said in conversation with Radio Marca.
Nonetheless, Rubiales revealed that it is not a disaster situation as he confirmed that there is an agreement in place at La Rosaleda dressing room that the club will pay in full what they owe.
However, with Fernando Hierro leaving the Andalusian club, the pieces that were set by Abdullah Nasser Al Thani have been jeopardized.
Rubiales revealed that he is unaware of how much the Qatari sheikh has invested at La Rosaleda but knows that Malaga have problems with their creditors which prompted Hierro to leave.
"I do not know what has been invested. Past some creditors have been troubled with difficult situations because, otherwise, this would be a fairy tale and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Hierro would be in Malaga," he said.
Rubiales also confirmed how Malaga bid farewell to Fernando Hierro. The former Real Madrid player was the head of Marketing and Development with the Andalusian club, but parted company with Sheikh Al Thani and Co. after a year’s business relationship.
"He is the only person I have contact with. He was concerned when talking to us, with good grace and trying to find solutions."
While in conversation, Rubiales acknowledged that Malaga are not the only club having problems in paying their due as liquidity problems increase in the financial turmoil.
