Argentina 79 – Canada 53
In yet another dominating display, the hosts Argentina conquered Canada 79-53 in their first game of the second round of the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship on September 5. The hosts gained the victory with the help of their two
National Basketball Association players Luis Scola and Carlos Delfino.
Luis Scola
Scola amused the Argentinean supporters with his exceptional 22 points along with six rebounds during his 21 minutes stay on court. It was because of Scola that Argentina was able to outperform the Canadians in the first quarter
and from there on in it was a romp.
Later, Scola developed a good chemistry with Manu Ginobili and the duo helped the Argentina in stretching their lead further, when the Canadians got close in the third quarter.
Carlos Delfino
Carlos Delfino supported Scola well, as he tallied 17 points, grasped two rebounds and dished one assist for Argentina. Delfino’s shooting from the three-point range at the start of the second quarter allowed Argentina to match
the Canadian assault led by Kelly Olynyk.
Kelly Olynyk
Canadian side was led by Olynyk. However, even his terrific double-double effort couldn’t save the Canadian squad from defeat. Olynyk spent 26 minutes on the court and punctuated19 points together with 12 rebounds.
Brazil 93 – Uruguay 66
After attaining the second position in Group-A during the preliminary round, Brazil routed Uruguay 93-66 in the fourth game of the second round on September 5.
Vitor Benite
Shooting guard Vitor Benite was the main stay for Brazil on the night. The 21 year old hit game-high 21 points on a 100 percent shooting from the field and 71percent from the three-point range.
Guilherme Giovannoni
Guilherme Giovannoni made 12 points, grabbed four rebounds and supplied two assists for Brazil.
Marcus Souza
Marcus Souza also scored 12 points for Brazil. His contribution also involved four rebounds and one assist.
Sebastian Bernal
From Uruguay, Sebastian Bernal was the leading scorer. He chipped in with 12 points, four rebounds and one assist in 32 minutes on the court. Bernal shot 50 percent both from the field and three-point range.
Sebastian Rodriguez
Sebastian Rodriguez was the second lead scorer for Uruguay. He had 11 points, four rebounds in just 16 minutes.
