Luis Scola leads as Houston Rockets squeak past Philadelphia 76ers 93-87 - NBA Recap
On Wednesday night, the Houston Rockets took on the Philadelphia 76ers at the Toyota Centre and after a tough contest edged past the visitors 93 – 87, improving their record to 20-14. Philadelphia, who were 20-13 before this game
have now dropped to 20-14 after the loss.
The Sixers were ahead by 4 points, 65-61, by the end of well fought first three quarters; however the game was not finished by any means for the Rockets. Within a minute of the deciding quarter, they slashed the deficit levelling
the score at 65 all to make it anybody’s game.
Philadelphia quickly replied with a 8-2 run in the ensuing passage to acquire a healthy 6 point lead 73-67. However they failed to maintain it as the Rockets rattled a 7-2 reply to again bring both teams level at 75. The game kept
on changing and with 2 minutes remaining on the clock, the 76ers were ahead by a point 84-83, before Kyle Lowry initiated a game deciding 6-2 burst, to make it 89-85 for Rockets.
That burst proved to be decisive and the Rockets used a flurry of free throws to seal the victory.
Luis Scola led Houston with a game high 19 points on 8 for 16 from the floor and 10 rebounds. Lowry, who had a painful outing tonight as he injured his ankle in the first quarter, was impressive and finished with 13 points, 8 boards
and 5 assists.
"I hit the floor a few times but it doesn't matter, we got the win, I'm never going to say we're overachieving, or underachieving," Lowry said. "I think we're a good team, and I think we're going where we're supposed to be going."
Kevin Martin netted 16 points whereas Chandler Parsons and Patrick Patterson both amassed 12 points.
Rockets outshined the 76ers in shooting from the floor (46.2%-40.2%) and held the upper hand in assists (16-12) as well.
For the Sixers, major share of scoring came from the reserves as the starting line-up failed to make impact. Nikola Vucevic had 18 points and 8 boards on 8 for 12 from the floor whereas Lou Williams bundled 17 points. Thaddeus
Young had 15 points while Jodie Meeks registered 14 points.
