Luiz Razia surprised at Marussia for confirming Max Chilton – Formula 1 news
Luiz Razia, who is the runner-up of the 2012 GP2 Series and has been with talks with F1 teams for a seat in 2013, has expressed his surprise over Marussia’s decision to confirm Max Chilton for 2013.
“In truth, at Lotus, we did not have much chance but, with Marussia, we were caught by surprise,” Razia revealed to Brazil's globoesporte.com. “Until yesterday we were still talking to them, and the team appeared quite open to the idea of our entry. Even
today [Wednesday], they said 'we're still deciding' – and then they closed [a deal] with Max.”
Razia said that while they can try their best to secure a seat with a certain team, there still is a limit to their efforts.
“We've been talking to both teams for some time,” he said. “So, yes, we still have chances. I'm doing my job, [but] there is a limitation of what I can do.”
He said that he can continue his talks with the teams but some of them require sponsorship. He said that he can bring sponsors but even that has a limit because after all they are not a bottomless pit.
He told that driving in F1 has always been his dream and for that he has not only invested his time but also money so he has to keep believing that he has a chance in this category. He added that he has no intention to go back to GP2 since he has already
proven what he had to over there. He said that he is not thinking about any other racing categories either since when he sets a goal for himself, he keeps focusing on that. He said that if does not succeed at securing a driving seat for the upcoming season
then he will be reviewing his options and planning for his future.
Marussia had announced Razia as their reserve driver in the Japanese Grand Prix of 2012 and had also promised him a promotion after he performed well in testing. However, now with chances being over with both Marussia and Lotus F1, Razia is looking forward
to a chance with Caterham and Force India.
