Luka Modric dismisses rumours of a transfer to Barcelona
Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has said he intends to fulfill his contract with the club, claiming rumours placing him elsewhere are more comical than accurate.
Modric, who joined Spurs in 2008, has started all of the team's games in Europea and seven of their ten league fixtures this season, despite the arrival of Rafael van der Vaart in August, another playmaker.
Against Inter Milan on Tuesday, 2 November, Modric impressed by skipping past Sulley Muntari and threading a neat ball through the Italians' defence to let van der Vaart open the team's account.
The 25-year-old's recent form has made him subject to speculation in the press, with the latest reports placing him with Spanish champions Barcelona.
"Me going to Barcelona? Yes, I really hope that, but only as a Tottenham player in the next round of the Champions League," Modric said of the rumours, adding that while the speculation is flattering, there is often little truth to the reports.
"Let's be serious. All this is just so-called exclusive rumours, but I don't know who really needs them. Are they funny? Yes, they are very funny for me. But of course, it is always nice to see your name being linked with such a club as Barcelona, but one
has to keep their feet on the ground. At the end of the day it's just rumours without any foundation."
Intends to see out six-year deal
The quick-footed midfielder, who signed a six-year contract with Spurs in May this year, said he expects to be going nowhere in the near future.
"First it was Chelsea, then Inter Milan and also Manchester United, now it is Barcelona. But the only truth is that I just recently signed a new contract with Tottenham. London is such a great place and at White Hart Lane I feel just like home. I can make
my football dreams come true with Tottenham and that is why all my thoughts and also my future is with this club."
