Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric insisted that the Londoners would want to play in the UEFA Champions League next season after a successful campaign in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Spurs topped their group ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan and are currently in the knockout stage of the competition. They shocked AC Milan at the San Siro by winning 1-0 in the first leg and are favourites to qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition.
The Croatian believes that Tottenham should be emulating the big teams now and they should qualify for the competition every year. He said that every team loves to play in the UEFA Champions League and that his side will make sure they are in the competition
next year as well.
“Everyone wants to play in the Champions League, it’s an unbelievable competition. We want to carry on enjoying the feeling and that is why we need to make sure we qualify again this season,” said the midfielder in an interview.
Modric said his side has not given up on the fourth spot which was snatched by fellow Londoners http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 recently. Tottenham are still in contention for UEFA Champions League qualification and face tough competition from the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea.
But the Croatian believes that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 could also be in contention for the fourth spot after a brilliant performance against Manchester United at Anfield.
“It will be a tough fight for fourth place with Manchester City, Chelsea and maybe Liverpool. The way they played against Manchester United you cannot count them out,” added the Croatian.
Tottenham face AC Milan in the second leg of the knockout stage in the UEFA Champions League at White Hart Lane. They will be looking to capitalise on the 1-0 win at San Siro and put in a solid performance to reach the quarterfinals of the competition.
Tottenham are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table with 48 points and are three points behind fourth placed Chelsea. Liverpool are in sixth place with 42 points after winning a crucial tie against rivals Manchester United at Anfield.
