Luka Modric optimistic ahead of Manchester United clash
Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric has said his team are capable of defeating Manchester United in the teams' Premier League encounter on Saturday, 30 October.
Spurs are fifth in the league table with 15 points from nine games, two points behind Arsenal, United and Manchester City. A win on Saturday would see the team go one point clear of United.
In the Champions League, Harry Redknapp's team were handed a 4–3 defeat by defending champions Inter Milan on 20 October, but Modric said his side were boosted by their performance in the second half, during which Gareth Bale pulled three goals back for
the Londoners.
"We showed against Inter in the second half that we can compete with the best teams in the world and United is certainly one of the best teams in the world," the Croatian told Spurs' official website.
Tottenham have gone 22 games without winning against United, but Modric, who joined the team from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008, said their dismal record against Ferguson's side is no reason feel intimidated. "Why not go there and try to win? I know Tottenham haven't
won at Old Trafford for a long time, so why not now?
Modric eager to return to Old Trafford
Despite the arrival of the impressive Rafael van der Vaart, another attacking midfielder, Modric has started six league games for Redknapp this season.
The skillful player cut a lively figure in the team's 1–1 draw with Everton on 23 October, combining well with the Dutchman and setting up several chances for his teammates.
The 25-year-old, who scored Spurs' second goal at Old Trafford in April 2009 before United fought back to win 5–2, said he will relish returning to the Theatre of Dreams.
"It's the best stage to play, the best stadium and it will be a great game for us. I hope we can do something there."
