http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 saga: Daniel Levy and Harry Redknapp should seal the deal – EPL news
The hype, predictions, assessments and analysis regarding Luka Modric’s move to (possibly) http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 persists with much zeal and vigour as it did right at the start of this summer. He has been touted with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur throughout the transfer
window. The deal has been in limbo with Harry Redknapp initially not very interested in selling off his best player. Chelsea have been just as eager to bring him in to their folds.
Chelsea’s new manager Andres Villas Boas has seen two of his bids turned down. The initial bid £22 million was rejected by the Spurs chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy. Chelsea followed up with an improved bid of £27 million. To their dismay, it has also been turned down
by the Spurs. The rejection might force the Blues to look for another player who can meet their game plan. This was admitted by Villas Boas as he confirmed in his interest to bring West Ham United’s Scott Parker to Stamford Bridge.
On Spurs, he said: “Spurs have a right to defend their player and property. We just have to wait. It is one of the positions we are looking to strengthen. It is just a question of finding the solution”.
On the other hand, Harry Redknapp is so adamant in keeping Modric that he has shown no interest in Modric’s transfer request. "We know he wants to leave, whether he writes it down on a piece of paper doesn't really make any difference to our stance," he
said.
This leaves the entire Modric saga in a predicament. It made perfect business sense to not let Modric go initially when the two bids were made. Redknapp probably looks to milk the Russian cash cow to the maximum possible. But, on the other hand, he is also
weary of the fact that Modric is a disgruntled player who badly wants to move away from Tottenham. If Modric stays, then, he would fail to provide the desired utility to his club.
Had this been a virtual game on any of the current gaming consoles, it might look fine to have your player sit in the reserves. But, to keep Modric there on the benches can only bring harm to the setup of the playing side. This is bound to be on the Redknapp’s
back of the mind too. Therefore, there is a slim chance for Modric to be in the starting eleven by the time the Spurs kick off their 2011/12 English Premier League campaign against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019.
Levy will now look to get as much a higher price as he can for his Croatian player. Had Modric not come out public with his statement that he is desperate to make a move away from Tottenham Hotspur, it would have been easier for Levy to achieve his targeted
price. It was probably because of the fact that the talks between the chairman and his player did not turn out to be as Modric would have desired. However, there is still much in favour of Levy anyways. Modric has five more years to go on his contract and
Levy’s opponent Roman Abramovich has oil-backed riches. The two perfectly complement each other.
Selling Modric would probably need strengthening in the squad, but if the deal is done, Redknapp should have enough of a budget to do that. In all earnest opinion, Redknapp and Levy should just look to seal the deal.
