Tottenham Hotspur midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 has revealed he will decide his future after the upcoming European Championships.
The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to London rivals Chelsea last summer, but the move never materialized. The Spurs were desperate to hold on to the versatile midfielder and successfully blocked his move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea were determined to land Modric though and made several bids for him, with their last and final bid worth 40 million pounds. Under former manager Andre Villas-Boas, the Blues were looking for players like Modric to be brought in and provide the much needed creativity.
However, Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp and club chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international leave. They urged him to honor his contract, which will expire in 2016, and told him to focus his attention on playing for the Spurs.
With the season gone by where Modric made 35 appearances in all competitions with 5 goals and 6 assists, it seems the playmaker is ready for a move away. Modric hinted that he was ready for “the big tests”, indicating a possible move away in the summer.
Modric said in an interview:
“I will decide about my future after the Euros.
I will make the decision where to continue my career. I'm ready for the big tests.”
It seems highly likely that Modric will end up at Chelsea. Even though Andre Villas-Boas, the young Portuguese manager is no longer in charge, having been sacked mid-season, the Blues seem to have retained their interest in the Croatian midfielder.
With former assistant coach http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo in charge of affairs at Stamford Bridge, he will most likely make an attempt to sign Modric in the summer transfer window if he is given a more permanent role at the club. That depends largely on the result of the UEFA Champions League final.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 take on Bayern Munich in the European competition final on the 19th of May at the Allianz Arena and a lot depends on the result of the said fixture. If the Blues win then there’s a chance of Di Matteo becoming the permanent manager at Chelsea and Modric signing with the London side.
