Luka Wraber beats Artem Pochtarev in Women’s Singles quarter-final at Bulgarian Hebar Open 2012
Austria’s Luka Wraber showed his elevated performance and surged into Men’s Singles semi-final after defeating Artem Pochtarev of Ukraine in Men’s Singles quarter-final at Bulgarian Hebar Open 2012 on Saturday, May 26, in Bulgaria.
Wraber, who is number 3 seed in Men’s Singles draw of the championship, proved his elevated run in the court by putting up superb show and won the battle in three games against Pochtarev who was seeded at number 5 in the tournament.
The higher ranked Austrian lost the first game but fought back in the match and took the following both sets to win the battle in three games.
On the other hand, Pochtarev showed his impressive play in the opening game but could not overpower his rival in the following sets and bowed down in rubber games of 55 minutes.
In the first set, Wraber could not control the pace and also remained struggling to take the bird timely.
Until the one-minute break in the first game, the Austrian remained behind on the score board.
After the interval, the higher ranked Wraber tried to get a good rhythm but failed to cope up with the perfection of his rival and lost the set with a margin of 15-21.
In the second game, Wraber played good badminton as he did not commit unforced errors this time and also remained close to his rival on the score board.
The score remained tight on the board until the one-minute break.
After the break, Wraber controlled the pace of the game and dictated his rival in all areas of the court. He remained ahead in the concluding half and won the second game with a margin of 21-18.
In the deciding set, the Austrian continued his elevated run in the court without showing any sign of slowing down his speed. Until the break, he was slightly ahead of his Ukrainian opponent on the board.
After the break, Wraber remained positive and composed and he eventually took the game with a margin of 21-16.
The Austrian won this entertaining fight against Pochtarev in rubber games with a 15-21, 21-18 and 21-16 margin on the board.
