Luka Wraber thumps Pavel Florian to step into semi-finals of Slovenia International 2012
Austria’s Luka Wraber led his country to the Men’s Singles semi-finals of FZ Forza Slovenia International as he outclassed Pavel Florian of Czech Republic in quarter-final round on May 12, 2012.
The epic 50-minute tussle lasted for three hard fought games and ended with final figures of 10-21, 21-19 and 21-7.
Luka Wraber has fair chance of making into title match as he will now lock horns with unseeded British shuttler Andrew Smith in semi-finals of the event.
Earlier in round of eight, he had a rough start against the lower ranked opponent and went down in opening game of the match.
The Czech shuttler Pavel Florian played with right attitude and fortitude in first set and yielded best results by winning crucial match point.
Pavel, who was ranked eighth in this event, launched a brisk attack and did not give his opponent even a single chance to stand firm in any stage of the game.
He gained an immediate advantage in first half of the set and capitalised it by raising the lead to eleven points which turned final blow to his rival who knelt down after reading 21-10 score.
However, the Austrian stormed back with a strong reply in very next game. He employed his premium skills after finding himself one down and turned his rival’s plan of convincing win into dust.
Luka Wraber, who is also four seed in this tournament, was under bit pressure in the start as he stayed at lower end but soon he rose on his toes with some power packed rallies before the interval.
After one-minute break, he committed some unforced errors which allowed his competitor to catch him at game point situation but Luka added three consecutive points in the total and walked away as survivor with a favourable margin of 21-19.
This 1-1 match score position brought life back into contest and both contenders entered in court to secure the honour.
The Czech campaigner tried to match his rival’s skills but he could not hit the mark in decider. Men’s Singles expert Luka Wraber reserved his right to be in the semi-finals by registering final total of 21-7.
