West Brom’s fifth and latest signing of the summer is Chelsea’s Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku who recently signed for the Baggies in a season-long loan move.
The player had joined Chelsea from Belgian outfit Anderlecht last season in an £18 million move during Andre Villas-Boas’ short period as Chelsea boss. The Portuguese manager rated the striker very highly, and he arrived amid great hype and expectation,
with many calling the teenager the next http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044.
Lukaku was however unable to make his mark for Chelsea and rarely featured for them. He only managed to make 12 appearances for the club in all competitions and managed only one assist.
Baggies boss Steve Clarke had admitted that the player was desperate for a loan move to the Hawthorns and was full of praise for the youngster. West Brom have already signed four players this summer. Yassine El-Ghanassy, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Claudio-Yacob-c9331 and Markus Rosenberg
are three of the big names that have arrived in Birmingham and they are now joined by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672.
Steve Clarke means business as he looks forward to continuing the impressive work of former Baggies boss Roy Hodgson and help the team improve upon last season’s success.
Lukaku has revealed that Steve Clarke was an important factor in his decision to move to West Brom for the season. The 19-year old striker had been chased by a number of clubs when Chelsea allowed him to go out on loan, but the Belgian chose West Brom and
put pen to paper on the 10th of August. The player said:
“I’m really, very happy to be here – there are nice people around. Since the first day I spoke to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 about going out on loan, I’ve spoken to the gaffer here a lot.”
“He was the first person who contacted me and that means a lot. He’s been speaking to me every week since – even when I was in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390 with Chelsea – asking me about my situation.”
“But I believe that will be good for my development as a young man and I’m very happy to be here. This club really convinced me a lot, also with the stadium and the fans.”
