Lukas Konecny to return against Salim Larbi in WBO light middleweight title bout - Boxing News
Lukas Konecny, the former EBU (European) and WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight champion, will make an impressive comeback in a 12-round title skirmish against Salim Larbi, the current WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight champion to grab the interim
WBO light middleweight gold, as he puts it.
The above bout will headline the Thursday April 5, 2012 event and the ring for the pay-per-view will be setup at Vodova Arena situated in Brno, Czech Republic. The event is being solely organised and promoted by Ulf Steinforth of Sport Events Steinforth.
Lukas, a proud Czech who has been in a total 50 bouts, left the ring after his last skirmish with Hussein Bayram, a battle in which he not only retained his EBU (European) light middleweight gold but also grabbed the vacant WBO intercontinental divisional
title.
Konecny, 33, will make his return after the lapse of 11 months. The world number 13 light middleweight has an impressive resume and emerged victorious in a total 47 bouts while collecting 22 of his wins by knockout.
He has lost just three brawls in his long career. Among is losses was the bout against Serhiy Dzinziruk, a bout in which he fought for the WBO light middleweight gold. Despite the experience, the knockout ability, an intimidating resume and many other prolific
aspects that help him outclass Salim Larbi, Lukas still needs to overcome the 11-month gap disadvantage.
Salim, 24, will enter in his career’s 20th bout and will strive hard to avail the golden opportunity of nailing a veteran pugilist. Larbi, who resides far in the world as well as national rankings, has emerged victorious in 17 bouts and seriously lacks the
knockout ability since he has collected just four wins by KO.
The Frenchman, who recently grasped the WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight gold after nailing Isaac Tordjro Selom via unanimous decision, is in his prime form as compared to Lukas who will definitely use the initial rounds in accommodating and understanding
the young Larbi.
During the brief press conference, the returning Lukas said, “Finally, I’m glad that I now have a real opponent and I can grab the championship belt. It is especially nice to be able to realize my dream here in front of my fans in Brno, in my hometown. I
can and will deliver a great experience to my loyal fans here in the Czech Republic!”
At the same time, Salim, while giving much respect to his veteran opponent said, “Although I am much younger in years than Konecny, but this will not prevent me from taking my chance against this experienced man and great champion. I will use this challenge.
I can beat him – I am top prepared!”
The event will be co-headlined by the WBO and World Boxing Federation female middleweight title bout between Christina Hammer and Julie Tshabalala.
