Lukas Konecny to fight Salim Larbi for interim WBO world belt – Boxing News
European champion Lukas Konecny is scheduled to take on French fighter Salim Larbi for the interim WBO world belt on April 5 at the Vodova Arena in Brno, Czech Republic. Lukas was previously heading towards a bout against WBO super welterweight champion
Zaurbek Baysangurov. However due to an injury suffered by the latter, the bout was cancelled.
As of now, Lukas Konecny stands with 47 wins, 3 losses and 22 knockouts, whereas Larbi stands with 17 wins, 1 loss, 1 tie and 4 knockouts. As per stats, Lukas seems to be the better fighter since he has been in more bouts and has better winning percentage.
However, Salim Larbi is a young fighter who is known for his composure. Unlike other young fighters, Larbi plays smooth and hits on his opponent’s weakness. Therefore, Lukas needs to be careful of Larbi’s calm yet smart ways of fighting.
The bout is scheduled to take place in Konecny’s hometown. Excited about his upcoming bout and heart-broken at the cancellation of the previous one, Lukas iterated, “After a long and hard preparation I was very disappointed after the cancellation. For the
second time it fell through just twelve days before the fight. It’s great that the fight will take place in Brno. Now I can make my dream of becoming world champion come true at home!”
If Lukas had taken on Zaurbek Baysangurov, he would have had the chance of winning the WBO super welterweight title. However, now all what Lukas can win is the interim WBO world belt. Surely, Lukas Konecny finds himself ditched or maybe his stars plummeted
just when he wanted them to rise. In either case, Konecny feels he is up for the challenge and he will do his best to win against whomever he faces. Maybe the next time Konecny will get his title shot on the super welterweight title. For now, he has to settle
down for the interim WBO world belt. It is an important fight for Konecny and he must win it in order to prove his mettle and open doors for better opportunities in the future.
