Lukas Lacko demolishes Albert Ramos in the opening round – Rakuten Japan Open 2012
World number 65, Lukas Lacko of Slovakia, defeated the 49th ranked Spanish player, Albert Ramos, in a one sided first round match at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo.
Lacko kept the proceedings under his control throughout, allowing the Spaniard to claim just two games and claiming the encounter 6-0, 6-2 in just 59 minutes.
The Slovakian was almost error free in the first set, as he lost just six points till the end. The 24-year-old broke Ramos three times and held his entire serves, winning six games in a row to seal it 6-0.
Lacko banged in three aces and did not make any double fault, keeping his first serve percentage at 60. The Slovakian contestant had an outstanding conversion rate, as he bagged seven of the nine first and five of the six second
delivery points. The best part of Lacko’s game were his aggressive replies to Ramos’ serves, clinching eight of the 10 first and four of the five second return points.
The Slovakian started the second set in the same way he had played in the first one, capturing first three games to race to a 3-0 lead. Ramos avoided complete embarrassment, as he was able to open his account this time by holding
his serve in the fourth. However, he could not win it in the eighth game, going down 2-6.
Lacko did not hit any ace and committed two double faults in the second set. The right-hander sent accurate returns to the Spanish player’s second serves, pocketing six of the seven points on them. The 65th ranked player
did not provide Ramos any break opportunity and availed two of the three he created for himself.
The Slovakian captured his first victory after eight straight losses. His previous win came at the Wimbledon Championships, where he advanced to the third round. The Bratislava, Slovakia resident stunned the then world number 35,
Jurgen Melzer, in the second round at the All England Club.
Lacko has a difficult task ahead, as he will take on the top seed, Andy Murray of Great Britain, in the second round.
