Lukas Pesek gets MotoGP ride with IodaRacing Project – MotoGP news
2013 MotoGP grid is finally complete with Lukas Pesek confirmed as the 24th and final full time rider. Pesek will be riding for IodaRacing Project as a full time CRT driver in the MotoGP class.
Since departing from Moto2 class in 2010, the 25-year-old Czech rider has not participated in a MotoGP race at any class. Qatar Grand Prix scheduled to be held on April 7, 2013, will be Pesek’s first Grand Prix appearance since 2010 Moto2 San Marino and
Rimini’s Coast Grand Prix. In Qatar, Pesek will be riding the second Suter-BMW, the MotoGP bike of IodaRacing with Danilo Petrucci riding the first bike.
While talking about how he felt about his return to the MotoGP arena, Pesek said, “I'm very happy to get this opportunity and I have to thank Giampiero Sacchi, with whom I share some great memories of my 125cc years. Racing in MotoGP is definitely not an
easy task, I'll be up against the best riders in the world - it's a big step for sure but I'll give my best!”
In 2003, Pesek participated in 9 rounds of the 250cc World Championship scoring 4 points in the championship and ending 30th in riders’ standings. 2007 was Pesek’s best year in his riding career. He clinched 2 victories in the 125cc class championship with
6 podium finishes. Pesek finished the 2007 season 4th on riders’ standings and 182 championship points. Recently, the Czech rider has been participating in German Superbike Series and Supersport Series.
IodaRacing started their MotoGP programme in 2012 entering the MotoGP arena as a CRT (Claiming Rules Team). In the 2012 Manufacturers’ Championship, IodaRacing scored 27 manufacturer points with Petrucci posting a best finish of 8th in the 2012 Valencian
Community Grand Prix.
Welcoming Pesek to the team and their CRT MotoGP programme, the IodaRacing Project boss, Sacchi said, “Lukas's return is very welcome - he wrote some great pages of Derbi's history in 125cc working alongside some of our current team members. Lukas has a
tough challenge lying ahead of him but I'm sure he can do well in the premier class.”
With the 2013 MotoGP grid now complete, Danilo Petrucci and Lukas Pesek will be the only riders running the Suter-BMW after Forward Racing’s decision to run FTR-Kawasaki instead of Suter-BMW in the upcoming season.
