Lukas Pesek says he is still short of funds for Ioda campaign – MotoGP news
Despite the confirmation of Lukas Pesek as a teammate of Danilo Petrucci in the CRT entry of IodaRacing Project for 2013 MotoGP season, Pesek has disclosed that he does not have the necessary funds and is still working on it.
It is speculated that Pesek requires somewhere around 200,000 Euros.
According to a Czech website, motogpnews.cz, the 27-year-old Czech rider said, “I still do not have it all, but we're working on it. In a few days to [raise all the money] is not so simple.”
However, Pesek seems positive that he will be able to acquire the required amount of funds in time, thus fulfilling the one of the obligations laid on him in his contract, which shall in turn ensure that Pesek will be riding the Suter-BMW.
“It's nice when you sign a contract with someone and he just does not tell you much, but welcome to the family. It is nice and I hope that it will work. I'm looking forward to the atmosphere in MotoGP,” Pesek said while talking about his contract with IodaRacing
Project. Pesek has ridden for Ioda boss Giampiero Sacchi in the past as well in a 125cc class season.
Provided that Pesek is a able to meet the financial aspect of his contract, he will be one of two Czech riders on 2013 MotoGP grid, the other being Karel Abraham who will be making a switch from Ducati Cardion AB Motoracing in the upcoming season.
Career best statistics for Pesek came in 2007 while riding in the 125cc class for Derbi. Pesek had finished the season 4th on riders’ standings clinching 2 victories, 6 podium finishes and 182 championship points. 2013 will be a come-back season for Pesek
because he has not participated in a Grand Prix since 2010 Moto2 San Marino and Rimini’s Coast Grand Prix.
Ahead of Pesek, World Superbikes riders, Roberto Rolfo and Chris Vermeulen were the two possible candidates for the IodaRacing seat. But the negotiations did not mature after Vermeulen realised that Ioda were looking for a rider who could bring funds to
the team and thus Pesek’s place was confirmed.
Only time will tell how well the 2013 goes for Pesek who is returning to the Grand Prix arena after a little over two years.
