Star of the show against Hannover 96, Lukas Podolski, has dedicated the opening goal to his father. The striker grabbed a brace in his team’s 2-0 win over Mirko Slomka’s side on Sunday.
Both the clubs locked horns on Sunday, October 16, at RheinEnergie Stadion. The Billy Goats registered a rather scrappy but a much needed win over the Reds. Podolski opened the scoring in the 24th minute and then sealed victory by completing his
brace on the 86th minute mark.
The German international told that his side dominated first half of the game despite being considered underdogs at home. He also expressed delight with his own performance, which enabled his side to register an important win.
Podolski dedicated the first of his two goals to his father for being ever present inside the stadium whenever the player has taken to the pitch. The striker’s father was also present during the game against Hannover, sitting right behind the net which Podolski
found on the 24th minute mark.
Further telling about his opening strike, the 26-year-old enthused, “I'm always happy to score good goals. If they win the game then all the better. It's not often you score two goals in one game. I'm a player who likes to take risks. Sometimes it doesn't
work out, but when you score one like my second today, it's well worth it.”
Podolski also commented on Koln’s upcoming game against the reigning champions Borussia Dortmund. The Billy Goats will travel away to Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, October 22. A win over the Borussians will get them level on points with Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He concluded the talks by saying, “We can't compare ourselves with Dortmund just yet. If we approach the game with focus, spirit and energy, then maybe we can cause a surprise there. We're going to have to turn things up another notch from the Hannover game,
though.”
The German veteran has so far made 67 league appearances for the Billy Goats, bagging 21 goals during the process.
