FC Koln striker Lukas Podolski has expressed uncertainty over his future at the club after being linked with a move to Schalke at the end of current season.
Podolski was talking after his side’s emphatic 4-0 win at home to Freiburg on Saturday, where Christian Clemens and Podolski grabbed a brace each for the hosts.
Clemens opened the scoring in the 20th minute but some resilient defending from Freiburg denied Koln from scoring more goals in the first 45 minutes.
Three second half goals in the space of 13 minutes marked Freiburg’s downfall, who are bottom of the league table with just three wins from 16 games.
Podolski expressed delight at his own performance and vowed to maintain the same form in the future assignments. He also reserved praise for his goalscoring partner, Clemens, who started the goal spree with the opener.
However, the player rejected claims of leaving the Billy Goats at the end of current campaign. He stated that he has no intention of parting ways with the club, neither is he thinking about his future at the moment.
He admitted to interest from Schalke but refrained from leaking out his future plans. He clearly mentioned that he won't be forced out of the club if he doesn’t renew his contract with the Royal Blues, as there are a further 18 months left on his deal with
the Billy Goats.
While taking to Sky television, the striker further enthused:
"I am just enjoying my football and I want to be successful and score goals, and if in the end everything is right, then we are all happy, even Hennes the goat (the club's mascot). I still have one and a half years on my contract and if I decide in one and
a half years, then so be it.”
"I have not made up my mind yet. One and a half years are a long time for a lot of thoughts." Podolski concluded.
Having bagged two goals at the weekend against Stuttgart, the striker’s tally has gone up to 13 league goals this season from 14 appearances and will next be seen in action against Bayern Munich on Friday.
