Lukas Rosol, Alessio di Mauro win their matches in Barletta Open 2011 – Tennis news
Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic came back from a set deficit against Austrian Martin Fischer on Thursday to reach the third round at the Barletta Open 2011 in Italy.
The Czech won the contest 6-7, 7-5, 6-2.
Fischer made a positive start to the match breaking the serve twice in the opening set. However, Rosol broke back immediately and showed a lot of character to take the set into the tiebreaker. The Austrian held his nerves in the tiebreaker and converted
a long rally in his favour to lead the set score 1-0.
The Czech tennis pro, Rosol bounced back brilliantly in the second set. He made the serve break in the seventh game of the set and then held on to his serve games to take the set 7-5.
Rosol raised the level of his game in the final set as he dropped only a couple of games to ensure a comfortable victory in the end. The Czech converted his first match point with a backhand winner to set up a clash with Italian Simone Vagnozzi in the next
round. Vagnozzi eased past Ivo Minar 6-2, 6-3 in his first match.
An attacking approach and lightning serves enabled Lukas Rosol to win to crucial points in the match. The 25-year-old managed to secure 75 per cent of the points on his first serve. He dominated his opponent on serve return as well scoring nearly 50 per
cent of the points to affirm his position in the contest.
Rosol has bagged significant victories on the Tour since he turned professional in 2004. He has gradually moved up the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings with his consistent performances. Although he had some fitness problems in 2010, yet he made
a strong return by reaching the final of the Singapore Open in 2011 where he lost to Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-2.
Ranked 131 in the world, Rosol has certainly carried over the momentum into this tournament as well winning his opening match against Gianluca Naso quite comfortably. The Czech could break into the ATP top 100 for the first time in his career if he continues
his brilliant form for the rest of the ongoing season.
Local Alessio di Mauro also won his opening match against compatriot Andrea Arnaboldi 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to book his place in the next round of the US $42,000 Barletta Open.
Mauro started off in fine fashion and broke the serve twice in the first set to take a set lead. Arnaboldi came back strongly in the following set to keep his hopes alive but lost the plot in the final set to hand over an easy victory to Mauro.
The match was played on a highly competitive note as it lasted for more than 2 hours and 44 minutes.
Mauro will take on Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in his next match.
