Lukas Rosol crashes out to Guido Pella in qualifiers – US Open 2012
Czech star, Lukas Rosol, was underplayed by the qualifying 31st seed, Guido Pella, in brutal straight sets in qualifying competition of the US Open 2012 on Friday. He suffered a 3-6, 3-6 loss against the seeded Argentinean in the final qualifying round at this last of the four Grand Slam events taking place in Queens in New York City, United States.
Rosol, the man responsible for dumping Rafael Nadal out in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships, displayed dismal performance at the Flushing Meadows and eventually exited from the qualifying competition with disappointment. As a result, Pella comfortable secured a spot in the main draw.
The world number 150, Pella comfortably entered the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. He smoothly plucked his entire serves and got the breakthrough in the eighth game, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to three.
Ranked 93rd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Rosol kept his drastic form in the follow-up set. After Pella held his serve in the sixth game, the Czech stepped off steam and lost his proceeding two serves. As a result, the fourth seed gifted away the set with a disappointing 3-6 defeat.
Summing up the Brno native performance, Rosol clobbered a poor first serve share of 45 per cent as opposed to his opponent’s 67 per cent and coughed seven double faults. He squandered both break opportunities and adding further to his misery, the Czech dusted away only five out of eight breakpoints he came across.
The qualifying third seed, Ricardas Berankis, will accompany Rosol towards the exit doors. He was edged out by the local contestant, Tim Smyczek, in three sets.
Both contenders played their best tennis in the opening set and kept their respective serves with poise. However, the Lithuanian trailed in the tie-breaker and won the opener with a 7-6(4) success.
The American rebounded and managed to get back in game after pulling out the equaliser with a single break of serve in the 11th game of the second set.
The seeded Lithuanian failed to fins his rhythm and after losing his serve twice in the final set, he suffered a 4-6 loss.
