Lukas Rosol edges past Daniel Gimeno-Traver in opening round – Kremlin Cup 2012
Czech star, Lukas Rosol, stomped over the Spanish challenger, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, in straight sets at the Kremlin Cup by Bank of Moscow on Monday. He nudged up a 7-6(9), 7-6(2) success over the world number 66 to secure a place in the second round at this
indoor hard court event taking place from 13th to 21st October in Moscow.
Rosol, who recorded the biggest upset victory in this season at Wimbledon Championships, remained on track for his maiden career title. He needed one hour and 46 minutes to outclass the Spaniard in their first encounter and advance into the second round
at the Olympic Stadium.
The 27-year-old Czech assertively entered this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 Series event. He dusted away both breakpoints he faced and kept his entire serves. Apart from squandering four break opportunities, Rosol stayed focused
and eventually bagged the opener with a 7-6(9) win after prevailing in the tie-breaker.
Ranked 88th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Rosol maintained consistency in his game in the proceeding set. He blocked the lone breakpoint he faced to swipe his entire serves. The Czech failed to find any break opportunity
and dragged the set to a tie-breaker. However, he cruised to a 4-1 lead in it before pulling out the victory with a 7-6(2) score line.
On the whole, Rosol struck 11 aces and produced a better first serve share of 60 per cent as compared to his rival’s 55 per cent. He also brilliantly marked 44 out of 55 points on it and ended the match with 91 points.
Next in queue for Rosol is the sixth seed, Denis Istomin from Uzbekistan. The Uzbekistani number one bounced back to outsmart Germany’s Bjorn Phau in a three-set thriller to set up this meeting.
The Tunisian star, Malek Jaziri, also earned the fame later that day. He swiftly pulled out his entire serves without facing any hindrance against the American contestant, Rajeev Ram. Jaziri cashed half of the eight break chances and clinched the match with
a 6-3, 6-1 score line in just under an hour.
