Lukas Rosol ousts Victor Hanescu in the second round – Serbia Open 2012
Czech star, Lukas Rosol, thrashed the Romanian contender, Victor Hanescu, in straight sets at the Serbia Open 2012 on Thursday. He joggled up a 7-6(4), 6-3 score line against the world number 104 to charge into the quarter-finals at this red clay court event
which is part of the ATP World Tour 250 series this season.
Rosol stayed on the right path to bid for his maiden ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) career title after outrunning the Romanian veteran in their first meeting. After this one hour and 22-minute encounter, Rosol not only took lead in the FedEx ATP
Head 2 Head series by 1-0 against the 30-year-old but also secured a place in the last eight.
Both contestants played brilliant tennis in the opening set and plucked their respective serves after warding off breakpoints they came across. The set went to the tie-breaker where the Czech edged past his opponent and bagged the opener with a 7-6(4) win.
Ranked 79th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Rosol improved his game in the second set and swiped in his entire serves after brushing off both breakpoints he faced. He got the breakthrough in the eighth game by cashing in
the lone break opportunity and clinched the set with a 6-3 score line.
Summing up the Czech’s game at this battle, Rosol spilled more double faults and produced a lower first serve share of 67 per cent as opposed to his opponent’s 73 per cent. However, he superbly clicked 43 out of 51 points on it and earned the limelight.
Next challenge for Rosol is the top seed, Pablo Andujar of Spain. The Spaniard bounced back to overpower Filippo Volandri in a three-set thriller to set-up this date.
The French star, Benoit Paire, will accompany the Czech in the last eight. He rebounded after the opening set and after breaking his opponent’s serve four times, the French clobbered a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 score line in two hours and 24 minutes. The 22-year-old
produced a lower first serve share but struck nine aces to prevail. He also impressively availed 36 out of 49 points on it and earned the fame.
