Lukas Rosol stands strong against Adrian Mannarino in quarter-final melee – Slovak open 2011
Ranked world No.80, Lukas Rosol, Czech, played his quarter-final match of Slovak Open 2011 against 23-year-old world No.82, Adrian Mannarino, ousting the Frenchman in an hour and 19 minutes of hard indoor court match capturing
the fixture in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(4) to make his way into the semi-final round of the ATP Challenger tour event on Friday, 18th of November 2011.
Playing in Bratislava, Slovakia, the two competitors walked down the blue circuit to battle out the semis seat of the event. Warming up for the fixture, Rosol won the toss and took his side to serve the match start rolling down
the scoreboard, 1-0. Mannarino levelled up right away, 1-1, switching the serve back to the Czech.
Rallying down games, the two levelled up at 2-2, however, the scoreboard got a lead when Rosol served out game five, 3-2, and broke the lower ranked Frenchman in game six to lead the scores, 4-2. With two straight games in his
bag, the 26-year-old Czech bagged the third, game seven, to extend his lead to 5-2 and served out one of the next two games finishing off the set winning, 6-3.
Struggling in the first set, Mannarino ignited in the second set serving out the first game, 1-0. Rosol followed with a winner to level the scores up, 1-1. The two rallied down games winning of respective serves, however, none
of the two could captivate a breakpoint winner and lead the table.
Evening up at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5 the set eventually ended up in a tiebreaker with Mannarino serving first. Rosol picked up his speed and kept his service winners. Finally breaking the Frenchman, world No.80 managed to s***w
down another set win, 7-6(4), and the match in straight sets to make it into the next round.
Statistically, the two ranked close but fought even closer. The two had a 3 percent difference in first serve accuracy percentage; Mannarino had the higher percentage, 78. However, Rosol mesmerized the crowd as he added 11 points
through his 11 blazing aces.
The two also kept up a strong defence, with just one breakpoint in 21 games. Anyhow, totalling 69 points in the end, 4 ahead of the losing Frenchman, Rosol grabbed 57 service points and 12 returners to finish off the fiery fixture
with a win.
Through to the semis stage, Rosol now goes on to play against Ricardas Berankis, Lithuanian 21-year-old, for a seat in the final round of Slovak Open 2011.
