Lukas Rosol surpasses Jurgen Zopp in second round battle – Slovak Open 2011
Lukas Rosol, Czech world No.80 and the fourth seed for Slovak Open 2011, mustered away winning his second round fixture against Jurgen Zopp, Estonian world No.150, beating the 23-year-old down in straight set, 6-3, 7-6(4), in an hour and 11 minutes of indoor
blue court match on Wednesday, 16th of November 2011.
The 23-year-old did put up a good effort, however, Rosol’s form lately has been simple superb. Anyhow, with the two walking down the blue circuit, the two warmed up followed up by the service toss.
Commencing with the fixture, the hard court blazed up as Rosol came forth with the first game of the match serving out the game to roll down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following the Czech, Zopp countered and won his first service game evening up the scores at
1-1.
Continuing next, Rosol held his second serve to bag game three, however, Zopp followed up strong winning the fourth game with a double game point win levelling up the scores, 2-2. Twisting the first set, Rosol served out game five, 3-2, and broke the lower
ranked Estonian in the sixth to lead the set, 4-2.
Serving next, Rosol added another winner to his lead, 5-2, and was now left with just one more game to pocket the set. Zopp did cut back the difference, however, could not do more than winning his own service game. Hammering the world No.150 in game nine,
the 26-year-old Czech ended the set with a 6-3 win and moved on to play the second.
Winning easy in the first, Rosol had to pull off harder to win the second. Firing up the set opener with a triple game point winner, Zopp took the lead. Almost losing his set opening serve, Rosol managed to level up the lead, 1-1, switching the serve back
to the 23-year-old.
The two served out games of respective serves levelling up at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and then on 5-5. Unable to break each other, the set eventually went into a tiebreaker with Zopp to serve first. At first the two were off fighting neck-and –neck, levelling up at
1-1 and the at 2-2, however, after that Rosol ignited pulling away into the lead and finally, bagging the last two points finished off winning the tiebreaker, 7-4, and the set, 7-6(4), to win his second consecutive set and the match.
Winning the second round of the ATP Challenger Tour event, Rosol now moves onto the quarter-final stage. Rival to the 26-year-old Czech is still to be decided by the match between Adrian Mannarino and Horacio Zeballos.
