Lukas Rosol topples Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in final showdown – BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2013
Czech contender, Lukas Rosol, outclassed the Spanish challenger, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, in straight sets at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2013 on Sunday. He recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory against the Spaniard to grab his first title at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event held in Bucharest, Romania.
The player who stunned Rafael Nadal in the second round at the Wimbledon Championships last season, Rosol captured his first ever title on his tour level final debut. Battling each other for the first time, the Czech edged in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series
against Garcia-Lopez by 1-0 and bagged the prize money. After capturing the crown, he dedicated his trophy to his father who passed away 10 years ago. Rosol reflected in a post match press conference:
“I wanted to dedicate this trophy to someone, so I found the energy.  I felt somebody was helping me from up top. It’s not just about me. My family has always supported me and my tennis. I felt match after match, my dream was coming true. It could not be
better this week. I came here from a full two weeks of practice. I didn't know what to expect of myself. So I’m pretty satisfied with this result… I will remember this week. It was very emotional for me and is something special.”
Rosol made a drastic entry into the Romanian dirt. He suffered the first blow in the opening game and trailed at 0-1. However, the Czech quickly re-focused and snatched his break back in the very next game. Rosol then held his serves with poise and got the
breakthrough in the eighth game, eventually clinching the set with a 6-3 score line.
Currently standing at his highest rank at the Emirates Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Rosol went out of control in the proceeding set. He reeled off four games before Garcia-Lopez could come on the score sheet. The Czech held his remaining serves with
conviction and eventually sealed the set by winning six games to two.
Overall, Rosol ruled throughout the battle. He recorded a better first serve share and superbly marked 25 out of 32 points on it.
