Lukas Schmidt hammers Vadim Novoselov in Men’s Singles semi-final of European Universities Games
Germany’s Lukas Schmidt shut the mouth of his critics as he powered his way into Men’s Singles final after crushing Russia’s Vadim Novoselov in semi-final match at the European Universities Games-Badminton Individual Tournament 2012 in Spain, on Monday, July 16.
Second seeded Lukas, who proved that his victories in previous matches were not a fluke, gave a strong message on court by showing his fantastic expertise and easily hammered Vadim who was seeded at number eight in the main draw.
The spirited Lukas surprised everyone by putting up phenomenal show of flawless badminton as he showed urgency to maintain his pressure on his rival and ended up the contest in just 27 minutes with a one-sided margin.
Lower ranked Vadim, in the meanwhile, tried his best to cope up with the speed and perfection of his German opponent but failed to live up to expectations and crashed out without showing clinching any game.
Second seeded Lukas started his journey in opening game in an impressive way as he took an early lead by playing attacking badminton and also maintained pressure on his Russian opponent.
Higher ranked German shuttler was in wonderful form as he took an incredible lead until the break.
After the interval, Lukas remained on course as he did not commit any mistake in the execution of strokes and also maintained his focus.
The German player did not face any trouble from Vadim in the concluding half of opening set and bagged it with an amazing score of 21-13.
In the second set, the lower ranked Russian player also showed an elevated performance but failed to break the rhythm of his opponent who was moving smoothly on court.
On the other hand, Lukas remained positive and calm and took a staggering lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Lukas showed urgency as he played attacking badminton aiming to remain in complete control of rallies and eventually clinched the set with a huge 21-14 difference on the board.
Lukas registered his mark over Vadim in straight games in just 27 minutes with a lopsided margin of 21-13 and 21-14.
