Lukasz Kubot/Janko Tipsarevic crush Gonzalez/Lipsky to reach quarters – Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Polish-Serbian collaboration, Lukasz Kubot and Janko Tipsarevic, blasted past the Mexican-American team, Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky, with a bagel at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 on Monday. They manipulated a 6-0, 6-3 success against their opponents
to cruise into the final eight at this hard court tournament taking place at Key Biscayne in Miami.
The high flying junction of Kubot and Tipsarevic showed superb skills to cripple their rivals in their first meeting. They took 57 minutes to breeze into the last eight at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Masters 1000 event.
The Polish-Serbian tandem thundered into the Tennis Center at Crandon Park and went on a six-game killing spree. Kubot and Tipsarevic fended off the lone breakpoint they came across and cashed in three out of five break opportunities, ultimately pulling
out the opener with a bagel.
Kubot and Tipsarevic kept momentum sailing into the proceeding set and held their opening serve in the second game to tie the scores at 1-1. After Gonzalez and Lipsky kept their serve in the fifth game, the Polish-Serbian collaboration sought their rhythm
again and stroke out the last four games successively.
All in all, the winning pair clobbered a slightly lower first serve share of 66 per cent as opposed to their opponents’ 68 per cent but impressively availed 19 out of 25 points on it.
Next challenge for the Polish-Serbian collaboration is the last year runner-up team, Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Canada’s Daniel Nestor. The second seeds swept past the Austrian tandem, Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya, with a breadstick to set-up this epic
battle. The Belarusian-Mexican collaboration displayed spectacular defensive skills as they brushed off all seven breakpoints they faced. They converted three out of five break chances to their advantage, eventually registering a 7-5, 6-1 score line.
The sixth seeded Indians, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, will accompany Kubot and Tipsarevic in the quarter-finals. They lost their serve once but cashed in three out of four break chances to steal the show. Bhupathi and Bopanna spilled five double faults
but spectacularly clinched 26 out of 31 points on their first serve share.
