Lukasz Kubot halts Philipp Petzschner in round two – Regions Morgan Keegan Championships 2012
Polish ace, Lukasz Kubot, overpowered the German rising star, Philipp Petzschner, in straight sets at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships 2012 on Thursday. He clobbered a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over the German veteran to secure a place in the  quarter-finals
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 series event held in Memphis, United States.
The world number 54 showed tremendous skills to tumble over Petzschner for the first time in their third meeting. He not only lowered the trail by 1-2 in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against the German but also moved a step closer to bag his maiden ATP
career title. The stars previously met each other at the
The 29-year-old exchanged a serve break in the opening set and dragged the set to a tie-breaker. Kubot cashed in the only break chance but failed to block the lone breakpoint he came across. The Pole dominated in the tie-breaker and subsequently pocketed
the opener with a 7-6(5) win.
Kubot improved his winning ways in the proceeding set and capitalised on half of the four break chances to pull out the victory with a 6-2 score line. He kept entire serves without facing any real challenge and ruled throughout the set.
All in all, the Polish rising star committed more double faults and produced a lower first serve share of 51 percent as opposed to his rival’s 56 percent. However, he magnificently registered 27 out of 38 points on it and smashed six vicious aces to prevail.
Up next for Kubot is the German booming star, Benjamin Becker, who halted Xavier Malisse to occupy this spot. Becker failed to block both breakpoints he faced but broke the Belgian’s serve three times to seal the deal with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory in their
first meeting.
Later that day, top seeded John Isner defeated Donald Young in an all-American clash in one hour and 42-minutes.
"Yeah, it was a tricky match," said the highest ranked player of the tournament after winning his second round match. "I wasn't playing my best at the beginning but I competed well and that helped me out a lot. From that I was able to win a very close first
set and play better in the second set. So I was very happy."
The world number 13 fired 22 aces and capitalised on two out of six break opportunities to clobber a 7-6(3), 6-4 score line.
