Lukasz Kubot outplays Stephane Bohli to clear the qualies – Swiss Indoors 2011
World number 64, Lukasz Kubot of Poland, toiled hard to turn the tables on the local wildcard entrant, Stephane Bohli, in the qualifying competition to make it through to the main draw of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors on Sunday afternoon.
Seeded at number three in the qualifiers, Kubot took two hours and five minutes of play to wrap up the contest in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the main rounds of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour
500 tournament.
Being played on the indoor hard courts of the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, the contest witnessed an amazing turnaround from the Pole competitor. Kubot was suffering a deficit of one set at the start but he came out from
behind to reel off the last two sets to register a convincing victory.
The third seed Pole competitor is having a 16-16 winning record in the ATP World Tour-level events this season and is toiling extremely hard to make it better. Kubot had a sloppy start in the competition and dropped the opening
set early in the contest to fall on his back foot. Bohli failed to sustain his winning momentum in the contest and let the third seed back in business in the following set of the match. Kubot gained pace in the second set and then went on with his impetus
in the third one to conclude a convincing victory in the end.
Bohli was out done by his error-ridden game, which included seven costly double faults at the crucial moments of the contest. The Swiss competitor secured 28 first serve points in the matchup but Kubot bettered him by clinching
39 out of 52 first serve points to drive him out of the competition. Kubot crafted eight break opportunities in the contest and converted half of them to bag the last two sets of the match.
Bohli nailed two serve breaks to pocket the first set in the match but Kubot came back strongly to take the second set with a cracking break of serve. The third seeded pole secured 13 out of 16 first serve points in the final set
and nailed two serve breaks to seal the matchup at 6-3, moving into the main draw of the tournament. A total of 173 points were played in the matchup and Kubot seized 91 out of them with his opponent following him at 82.
Kubot will take off his Davidoff Swiss Indoors campaign on Tuesday afternoon by taking on the German qualifier, Tobias Kamke, in the opening round of the main draw.
