Lukaz Rosol lucky losers into main draw; despite loss to Victor Crivoi – German Open 2011
The Bet-at-home Open German Tennis Championship 2011 had its qualifying rounds smothered with electrifying matches as Lukas Rosol played the Romanian international Victor “Vic” Crivoi in the qualifying rounds of the event on 17th July
2011. The Rothenbaum Tennis Centre had its clay circuit roughed up for the match as the fans overloaded to see the match.
Both the players have a historic rivalry. In that, Victor Crivoi, World No.194, has been the dominator. Playing a total of four matches against each other, the Romanian has won all of them. Rosol does manage to give the world
No.194 a tough time but somehow, despite the rankings, Victor succeeds in winning.
The two players have played each other in the French Open, Cordenons Challenger, Kosice Challenger and now at the International German Open 2011.
Kicking off the match on Sunday was Lukas Rosol, world No.71, as he comfortably made his way to the scoreboard. Following that, Vic levelled the score and then won the first breakpoint of the match to lead the set 2-1. Rosol succeeded
in recovering as he levelled the scores at 3-3 winning a breakpoint of Vic’s serve. The set led on to an intensifying ending as it stuck on a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker had another amazing story. It ended up at 7-7 but the difference was that Rosol won the
consecutive points and the set to lead the game 7-6(7), 1-0.
The next set was opened up by Victor as he won the first game to open up the score board 1-0. Both players won on their respective serves that again led to yet another astounding tiebreaker but this time Vic made his move before
the Czech Bird could fly away with another set and the match. Winning the set 7-6(5), the Romanian saved a loss levelling the set score to 1-1.
The surprises were yet not finished as it seemed that a tennis match was more of a fight to death. The decider set could not be more intensifying as both player led to a tiebreaker third time in a match. With 1 breakpoint wins
each in the final set, Vic finally had the Czech international in his net. Making his move for the kill, the Romanian international won the tiebreaker to finish of the match with an amazing performance 6-7(7), 7-6(5), 7-6(3).
Statistically, Vic had won with a 4 point difference securing 136 points including 92 service points and 44 returners. However, it was a win win situation at the end. Though Vic won the qualifier to the main draw but the Czech’s
hard work paid off as he made it to the main draw as a lucky loser.
Victor will now play Guillermo Olaso, the Spaniard, as Lukas Rosol goes head-to-head with Italian stallion Potito Starace in the main draws.
