Luke Donald, Ernie Els, Tiger Woods, Martin Kaymer and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano to battle in Match Play Championship
Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els, Martin Kaymer and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano are in the field of the upcoming mega event of the Accenture Match Play Championship.
Donald is the defending champion and will be facing Els in the first round on February 22, 2012. This tournament will continue to entertain the golf enthusiasts till February 26.
The five-day World Golf Championship is in the news for welcoming all the leading players on Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain Marana, Arizona.
Another glaring aspect of this mega tournament is the huge purse of $8,500,000 and the winner’s share of $1,400,000 with additional 550 FedEx Cup points.
It will be great to watch the two leading players, Donald and Els, competing against each other. The round between them will be the most entertaining, due to good scoring average and driving distance of both the players.
Donald, a 34-year-old Englishman, is a 4-time PGA Tour winner, with 11 professional victories in total. His performance was not so impressive this year but he is still a leading rival for the others.
He displayed an amazing performance in 2011 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. He defeated Kaymer by 3 and 2 winning scores. This was his debut win and now he is looking forward to securing the title once again.
Similarly, Els is also planning to be more impressive against the current World No. 1. There would be a tough battle between both the players.
Els, a 42-year-old South African, is a 18-time PGA Tour winner, who won 64 professional events in total.
He also won the World Golf Championships two times, in 2004 and 2010. However, glory of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is yet to be achieved.
The game-play between both will be a major attraction, but there are many other players as well, who are capable of inspiring spectators.
Woods, McIlroy, Kaymer and Castano are also among the top rivals of the tournament.
Woods is the hottest for winning 16 WGC tournaments. Out of all the wins, three were recorded at the Accenture Match Play Championship, in 2003, 2004 and 2008.
Three wins have given ample opportunities to the American, making him one of the favourites in the field.
Kaymer is last year’s runner-up, where he competed well against the winner Donald. It is also expected that he will be delivering an appealing performance.
All the players are arriving at Arizona. The stage and field is set. The upcoming five days will gain high viewership.
Large numbers of spectators are also expected to arrive at the golf course to watch their favourite, world leading players.
