Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy in the field of Match Play Championship, Phil Mickelson out
The World Golf Championship – Accenture Match Play Championship is starting with full enthusiasm, but Phil Mickelson is not in the field list.
The 41-year-old American professional golf player has already played five consecutive events at Professional Golf Association.
According to the PGA policies and rules, he cannot play the upcoming event at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain Marana in Arizona.
Mickelson’s absence will be making the field less competitive, as he is the most successful golfer of the current season.
He started the PGA 2012 season in January. He played the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation, but was unable to impress his fans and rivals with his game.
Later, he missed the cut at Farmers Insurance Open. This great loss increased his commitment and he displayed an improved performance at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, in the first week of February.
Surprisingly, he won the title of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am by a two-stroke lead on February 12.
In the end, he appeared at the Northern Trust Open, and was striving to record a win. He scored an amazing 7-under 277 and tied on the first position with Bill Haas and Keegan Bradley.
The game entered into the playoff and Michelson lost the leading position, as Haas scored a birdie on the second hole.
These two tournaments enabled the players to register amazing scores on the leaderboard, with Mickelson adding two successful events to his credit.
However, he will not be playing another mega event of the year, leaving his fans in a surprised state.
Mickelson's absence is making the event competition-free to some extent, but Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy will be trying to fill the void with their presence in Arizona.
Donald is the current world No. 1, McIlroy No. 2 and Westwood ranks 3rd in the Official World Golf Rankings. They are making the field more interesting and tough for other players.
Similarly, Tiger Woods is the biggest rival for the top-ranked players. His game is improving day after day. He is improving his performance in order to claim the world No. 1 position once again.
Tiger’s presence with other professionals is making the field more attractive. All these leading stars are the favourites for the event.
Spectators are planning to witness the thrilling five-day tournament of Accenture Match Play Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.
