Luke Donald aims a victory at the DP World Tour Championship
Last year, Luke Donald became the only player in the history of the game to win the money list titles on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour. His remarkable campaign in 2011 also took him to the top of the Official World Golf Rankings.
This year, the Englishman has won three tournaments in different parts of the world, including a successful defence of his title at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club.
However, he lost his number one crown, The Race to Dubai title and the PGA Tour money list title to Rory McIlroy.
Despite losing the money list titles and the number one position, he insists that the year was a success for him.
This week, he plans to end his campaign on a high note, by winning the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
According to the golf commentators, the 34-year-old will be a strong contender at the Jumeirah Golf Estates because of his recent form – he won the Dunlop Phoenix title in Japan last week.
“I think we always want to be at this event, and coming back here after what I did last year brings back a lot of great memories,” he said.
“It's an event with the Top 60 guys from the year and another chance to obviously play against some of the best players in the world and try to win a tournament”.
He added, “I'm excited to be here. Not just because of how big an event it is, but just because this is my last event and it's one more opportunity to get some success before the end of this year”.
Talking about the major championships, he stated that he was disappointed with his performance in the most prestigious events in the world of golf.
His best finish came at The Open Championship, where he took the fifth position. However, he was never in contention to challenge Ernie Els on top of the leaderboard.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he said that he will try to learn from his mistakes, which may help him add the major title to his resume in 2013.
