Luke Donald and Colin Montgomerie Lead: Live leaderboard of BMW PGA Championship Round 1
European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship has kicked off on the par-71 Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey, England with a star-studded field. The event carrying a purse of €4,500,000 has stepped into the first round. Here is a quick look
at the leader board.
Luke Donald and Colin Montgomerie hold the top spot on the leader board.
Donald, who finished second in the Volvo Golf Match Play Championship, is leading after the first eleven holes. The world number two teed off from the front and after leaving first three holes for par, the Englishman birdied par-5,
fourth hole, which set him into momentum. After a gap of one green, Donald hammered a fantastic tee shot straight into the fairway that left him standing between the first and second fairway bunkers. Hitting an iron from 236 yards, the player made his way
towards the green, which was severely protected to card the second birdie of the day. He repeated a similar action on the immediate hole and carded another birdie. He wrapped the front nine at a score of 4-under par 31.
Donald has completed the first three holes at the back and he is on his way to the mark the end of the first round.
Meanwhile, Colin Montgomerie is 5-under par 30 after the front nine. Ironically, the veteran, who has not finished in Top-30 in all of the seven starts, has kicked off with a brilliant pace.
Matteo Manassero is sitting on third place with a score of 3-under par 32 after eleven holes. The Italian rookie picked his first birdie on par-3, second hole as he hit a 4-iron to putt from few inches away. He reeled two more
birdies after a gap of one green and wrapped the front nine with a score of 4-under par.
Manassero is the youngest player on the field, but he is packed with loads of confidence that came with the prize money from the win at May bank Malaysian Open.
The fourth place on the leader board is occupied by Shane Lowry and Darren Clarke. Clarke, who hails from Ireland, has completed his first eleven holes after teeing off from the front. He picked two birdies in the opening three
holes.
