Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy grouped together at the Memorial Tournament
Rivals for the top position in the Official World Golf Rankings, Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy, have been paired for the opening two rounds of the Memorial Tournament, presented by Nationwide Insurance at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, slated
to start from May 31, 2012.
Donald replaced McIlroy on top of the world rankings once again after he recorded a victory in the last week’s BMW PGA Championship.
He has entered the event with an aim to make the final preparations for the US Open, scheduled to start after two weeks.
Therefore, he will be looking forward to another good run in order to get consistent prior to start of the second major event of the year.
In the meantime, McIlroy has not been able to impress his fans in the past few weeks, as he missed the cut in the both the last two events he played.
Therefore, it is important for him to record a good finish at Memorial in order to get back to form that will help him defend the US Open title in the upcoming month.
He also has another chance to make preparations, as he recently added FedEx St. Jude Classic to his schedule prior to one week of the US Open.
For the last nine months, he has recorded two wins and five second place finishes prior to missing the cuts at the Players Championship and BMW PGA Championship. Therefore, he now looks forward to regain the form that suddenly went missing.
"When you've went on a run when you've hardly finished outside the top five, and then all of a sudden two missed cuts, it's more of a shock than anything else," McIlroy said Wednesday. "Just a little bit surprising, and it's something I haven't really had
to deal with in a while, and I just have to knuckle down and figure it out and get back to the way I was at the start of the year".
The Memorial is considered as one of the biggest non-major event on the PGA Tour and is featuring several top-ranked players this year.
