Luke Donald defends the BMW PGA Championship title in England
Luke Donald won and defended his BMW PGA Championship title by a four-stroke lead, as he shot a 15-under 273 in the four-day tournament.
The 34-year-old Englishman did his best at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
He scored consistently throughout the European Tour event and shot 68, 68, 69 and 68 amazingly. He scored six birdies and two bogeys in the first round and finished among the top-10 players on the leaderboard.
He then made five birdies, one impressive eagle and three bogeys in the second round to reach the top-5 positions.
On Saturday, he displayed an average performance, adding four birdies and one-bogey till the end of the day. Then in the final round on Sunday, he shot five birdies and only a single bogey throughout the day.
He competed and defended his title in an impressive style. He grabbed a win by four-stroke lead over the two runners-up, Paul Lawrie and Justin Rose
“I feel I am getting closer. Every time I get a success like this, it adds to my confidence. These victories are key to bringing that confidence to the majors.” Donald said. “It’s putting four rounds together like I did this week”.
He added: “To come here and defend, and get back to No. 1 as a side note, is very sweet indeed. I feel that when I’m playing well, I’m hard to beat. But I think there could be 20, 25 guys who would say that. After the fourth, I didn’t give him (Rose) a hole
where he was teeing off first other than the 18th. I got the job done”.
Last year, Donald was the most appealing player in the field. He shot a 6-under 278 and won the title in a playoff mode against Lee Westwood. This year, he defended his BMW PGA Championship title in a different style.
In the current season, he has played at the PGA Tour and European Tour, recording one win at both. In March, he won the title of the Transitions Championship.
The Englishman is doing a great job on the course. He also has ample of chances to win more titles in the near future.
