Luke Donald fails to perform well at the Masters, finishes on the 32nd position
Luke Donald failed to display an impressive performance at the Masters Tournament held at the Augusta National Golf Club, from April 5 to 8.
The 34-year-old English professional golf player registered unimpressive scores of 3-over 291 and finished tied for the 32nd position on Sunday.
“You probably learn more from not playing well than you do from playing well,” Donald said.
“There are no small margins at Augusta. I think that’s the difference between majors and normal events. The margins are so fine that you can’t get away with as much. I need to be able to bring the game that I play at normal tournaments to the majors, and
I’m getting closer each time”.
He faced many challenges at Augusta and displayed an inconsistent performance. Donald started the tournament on Thursday and made four bogeys and two pars on the front nine holes of the course.
He then added two more bogeys and one birdie. He was 3-over par in the first round. This was the worst opening round he has played in the current year.
On Friday, he again displayed a mediocre performance and recorded two bogeys and a double-bogey. He somehow tried to cover the over par scores by shooting three birdies, but they were of no use.
He finished the second round by recording a 1-over 73 and hoped to prove his mettle in the third round. However, his expectations and hopes did not help him and he again shot a 3-over 75 on Saturday.
On the other hand, he shot his first eagle of the tournament, on the 3rd hole and carded one birdie as well. He was facing trouble scoring well on the course.
The current world No. 1 opened the fourth round tremendously. He made three birdies on the front nine holes, added one birdie and an eagle on the back nine.
He was also able to save bogeys and only bogeyed twice. He scored a 4-under 68, however, poor scores in the three rounds took him down and he finished outside the top-25 on the leaderboard.
“I should be contending — my game was good enough to get me to No 1. The focus in my career is to get myself into contention and win the big ones, and it’s always disappointing when I don’t do it,” Donald said.
Donald has no extra burden of the top ranking and is looking forward to making his career more appealing. He is in sorrow, but has made high plans to practise and tune up again for the next scheduled major of 2012.
