Luke Donald getting ready for the kill
Two days of the 141st British Open Championship have passed. The event started from the 19th of July at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course.
The biggest names in the world of golf are fighting for the prestigious Claret Jug. In the four-day event, fans are getting their money’s worth.
Some of the players have been successful in impressing the crowd while others have failed. The number one golfer in the world, Luke Donald has also managed to exhibit two good rounds of golf at the Lytham.
On the first day of the Open, Donald managed to card a single birdie on the third hole. On the back nine, he had only one bogey, on the eighteenth hole. There were no eagles or double bogeys throughout the day. These made his score even par for the day.
Donald managed to display a slightly better performance on the second day. He started off with a bogey on the third, which was followed by three consecutive birdies, starting from the fourth hole.
He carded another birdie on the front nine. It was on the eighth hole. His score on the front nine was three-under par.
The back nine was not as good for Donald as the front nine. He started off with a bogey on the tenth hole and scored another bogey on the thirteenth hole.
He managed to end his second day with a birdie on the fifteenth hole. This made his score one-over par and his total score two-under par.
After the two days, the English professional golfer is tied on the eleventh position with Steven Alker, Steve Stricker and James Morrison. He is eight strokes behind the leader, Brandt Snedeker. He has managed a score of ten-under par in two days.
Donald was very happy with his game. After the second day in an interview, he said, “The difference between yesterday's and today's round was I holed a few more putts”.
“I gave myself a lot of opportunities from 100 to 150 yards with the greens being pretty soft and there being not much wind. I'm certainly feeling more and more comfortable. It's nice to string a couple of solid rounds together in a major. Obviously where
I am in my career I need to be contending,” he added.
Luke Donald is in a strong position now. He has a good opportunity, he just needs to avail it. He just needs to play two more good days of golf and he can easily bag his first major title.
