Luke Donald lauds his Psychologist Dave Alfred for his contribution in his meteoric rise
World number one Luke Donald, who reclaimed his throne, last week at the star-studded BMW PGA Championship, lauded his performance coach and sports psychologist Dave Alred and believes that he could not have done the unimaginable without the support of his
coach.
Alred, known for his exceptional psychological grooming of players regardless of what sport they are engaged in, have been working with the Englishman for quite some time and Donald’s phenomenal composure in the final round at Wentworth testifies Alred’s
contribution in achieving the milestone.
Donald said, "It's helped me to really be aware of my posture and how I outwardly project that feeling of positiveness. It helps me send that message to whoever I'm playing with”.
And on the final day, it turned out to be none other than his playing partner and countryman Justin Rose who threw in a nail-biting challenge to the former world number one on the sprawling West course.
While Donald was making the charge on the final day, coming from behind, he stumbled on a bogey at the 4th while Rose spearheaded the vacant slot to birdie the same.
Donald quickly made up for the early loss and landed the title on the closing holes, seldom giving Rose a chance to capitalise on Donald’s early loss.
This was not the first time the Englishman was thrown in a challenge on such a crucial point where he was not only about to win the coveted title but the world number one spot was also at stake.
Donald achieved a similar victory on PGA Tour last year where he defeated Webb Simpson in the closing event on the calendar to reclaim the money leader title on both sides of the Atlantic.
Donald could only have won the money list on both sides with a victory and nothing less than that.
He added, "He's certainly always on at me again about keeping the shoulders back and not getting down on myself, staying positive not just mentally but physically and through my body position. So I think I've done a lot better job of it since I've been working
with Dave. He's always reminding me”.
Donald will now have to carry on with his charge into the heat of the summers where another three major titles will be awaiting the delectable world number one.
