Luke Donald looking for Seve magic for the British Open Championship 2012
The best golfers are going to gather on one platform to fight for the Claret Jug. This year it is going to be the 141st British Open Championship. The event tees off on the 19th of July and ends on the 22nd of July. The venue
for this event is the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course.
Only the biggest names in the world of golf will be contending to win the Claret Jug. This list includes the number one in the world golf ranking, Luke Donald.
Donald will be looking to bag his career’s first major. Till now, he has been able to win no majors. The 34-year-old has been very close before, but he has never actually won it.
Twice, he has secured the tied third position - first in the Masters Tournament 2005 and second in PGA Championship 2006.
The closest he ever got to win the Open Championship was in 2009. That time, he managed to finish tied at the fifth position. In this year’s Open Championship, Donald will be looking to change that and would like to finish at the 1st position.
Now the 34-year-old is eyeing the Claret Jug. He is looking forward to play like the legendary player, Seve Ballesteros. It is the same place (Lancashire) where Ballesteros bagged two of his three Open titles.
Seve Ballesteros is thought to be one of the greatest players of the game. He was able to secure 91 professional wins in his career. Out of these 91 wins, 50 came from the European Tour.
In an interview, Luke Donald talked about Ballesteros’ game, he said, “I have watched some of it, the iconic chip, playing from the car park on 16”.
“Yeah, I think that should give me some heart that I've not always been known as the guy who hits it consistently tee to green, but I have a great short game. I have great skills to get the ball in the hole no matter how I'm playing and I think that's what
won him The Open Championship,” he added.
Will Luke Donald succeed in securing his first major triumph, is yet to be seen.
