Luke Donald makes history leading both Money Lists after a strong finish at Dubai World Championship
In what could be termed as the quintessential fight between flare versus method, world number one Luke Donald posted a remarkable lows of 66 in last two consecutive rounds of Dubai World Championship to triumph as the only man in history to bag the Money
Leader titles on both the PGA and the European Tour. Donald needed a top-nine to retain his title as the Race to Dubai Money Leader, facing a formidable threat from the young Rory McIlroy, who needed at least runners up finish. The Englishman finished with
an amazing joint third, trailing the winner Alvaro Quiros by three shots.
"It's funny to sum up how I feel," said Donald.  "This is something I've wanted for the last few months -  to try and win both Money Lists.  Obviously with my come from behind win at Disney, this really became possible. I got what I came for, and that was
to win The Race to Dubai and do the double and create history."
Donald, known earlier as “Luke” in his trade, synonymous to his name, started his trailblazing year with a strong win at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson Arizona and went over to card several victories on both sides of the Atlantic. He
won the BMW PGA Championship to topple Lee Westwood from the number one slot of Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and walked over to bag Barclays Scottish Open on the European Tour. He reclaimed his PGA Tour FedExCup Money List title from Webb Simpson in
the Children’s’ Miracle Network Classic at Disneyland to become the first European to surge to the top of the money list on PGA.
Donald broke into tears when he was asked about how his late father would have felt about his stunning success.
"He would have been very proud and he would just give me a big hug," he said. “My father hopped into my head quite a few times (over the closing stretch)."
Meanwhile, Irishman McIlroy will be going into a rehab for at least a week as he has been diagnosed with a virus which could possibly be Dengue Fever. He will be recuperating before returning to mainstream golf.
