Luke Donald makes the cut at the Masters by one shot – Golf News
The world number one, Luke Donald, shot a one-over par 73 in the second round of the Masters Tournament to make the cut by just one shot on Friday, April 6, 2012.
The Augusta National witnessed Donald struggling for both the opening two rounds. He carded a three-over par 75 in the opening round, followed by another unimpressive round on Friday.
While reaching the 13th hole, he was two-over for the round when he made a slight comeback with a couple of birdies on the 13th and 15th hole.
However, a weird tee shot on the 17th cost him another bogey that took him over par for the round.
According to Woods, he was well prepared for the Masters this year as he earned a victory in the Transitions Championship, prior to coming to Augusta National.
Therefore, such a performance will never earn him a victory that he is hungry for. Donald has never won a major championship, despite being the world’s number one player for a long time.
“I am disappointed,” he said. “I thought I was as prepared as I’ve ever been. Last weekend when I was practicing I was hitting it so well. Some careless mistakes have cost me. At this stage of my career I need to continue to get in contention to win majors.
It’s going to be a tough order to get in contention by tomorrow night”.
He is currently tied for the 47th place on the leaderboard and is nine strokes behind the pace set by Jason Dufner and Fred Couples.
Keegan Bradley, the reigning PGA Champion, was also sharing the 47th place with Donald after a disappointing performance on the second day. He carded a five-over par 77 with the help of nine bogeys against four birdies.
The overnight leader, Lee Westwood, also shot a one-over par 73 to slip down the leaderboard to share the third spot with Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen and Sergio Garcia at four-under par overall score.
Ryo Ishikawa, who earned a place in the Masters through a special invitation, missed the cut after scoring 76 and 77 in the opening two rounds.
